two things I hate about the direction of movies and shows now. 1. We don't mind diversity just don't insert it into characters that were designed one way already and stop marketing the fact that the show is diverse. 2. Not respecting the source material. Writers for Hollywood need to understand that the works they are adapting are created by award winning and/or beloved authors so fans absolutely are going to be pissed when start changing everything about the source material because you didn't like it but think you can do better. Newsflash you are a Hollywood because you couldn't cut as a real author so stop changing actual authors works.

I think The Witcher writer syndrome is the most prevalent in Hollywood. I think they resent having write nerdy fantasy, geeky sci-fi, so they they try to teach the nerds "culture". Since they want to virtue signal their peers, we get their version of diversity.

Denis Villeneuve changes events from the book and invents new ones: - He intentionally made Paul more aggressive compare to the books. - he changes Jessica's overall persona. She's portrayed in the movies as a much weaker and fearful character than the books do. - he creates the North Fremen vs South Fremen conflicts. None of that shit is in the book. - he completely changes Chani story and path, even tho in the book she's standing by Paul’s side supporting him in everything, even when he decides to marry Princess Irulan for political convenience. - he deletes Chani's first pregnancy with Paul having first son, Leto II, the elder, which is killed during a Sardaukar attack. - Paul's sister Alia is not even born even tho she should've while Paul and Jessica were living in the desert along side Fremen. - He made Paul kill The Baron instead of Alia like in the book. And many more. Yet he states "My goal was to be faithful to Herbert"?!!! DEFUCK?? MAKE IT MAKE FUCKING SENSE!!!!

Good on you for bringing up Sandman. That's a particularly great example. People were worried it was going to be one of these terrible adaptations, because they were congratulating themselves on race swapping Death. But then everyone watched the show and saw that the actress they picked managed to perfectly embody the character from the comics. Because of that, no one cared anymore about the race swap, because they obviously hired her because she was the best choice.

If everyone would just quit watching it we may can move on. I don't watch tv anymore, no movies, no tv shows, nothing. And I'm just fine without it. All I have to do is just reread the original book to go where I want to.....

Representing everyone means representing none. There's a lot to unpack in those few words depending on perspective - guess its a double-edged sword to whoever uses it.

BG3 was diverse

Anime 9 times out of 10 is faithful adaptation of the manga. Imagine Hollywood doing that? The only one to come close was the first movie for teenage mutant ninja turtles. A big part of that was because for its time it came from what would be considered an indie studio.

"Storytelling does need to be representative of all people." This is one of the most ignorant comments that I've ever heard from a studio executive in my life. As any REAL story teller like Tolkien, Lewis, Rowling, Martin and myself will attest, story telling is about a group of characters and the dramatic events of their lives. You cannot cater to EVERYBODY.

I think Disney's decision to make "the force female" was to attract more female viewers but they've done it so poorly that it's ended up annihilating their core viewership which is male. I have been into Starwars and Lord of the Rings since I was a very young child but I honestly believe the primary reason for that was because I had older brothers that where into it. The vast majority of girls I grew up with and know today are not into Starwars and Lord of the Rings and even with all this "inclusion" they are putting in the show I really don't see that changing significantly, most women are just not into that genre but they are trying their hardest to force it and it's still not working. Of course there is a large percentage of women that are into it but when you compare it to (what was) the male fanbase it is a drop in the ocean. If Disney want to continue making money off this franchise they need to remember who their core customers are and stop trying to panda to the people that aren't watching anyway.

Villenueve did kind of screw up Part 2 with Chani opposing Paul, the "Northern" Fremen and "Southern" "Fremen, the eternal pregnancy of Jessica, etc. Still a good movie however. Part 1 is the Superior Product.

Gaiman? Umm, I didn't even bother with "The Dead Boy Detectives" when I found out the actors playing these characters--who were around 12 or 13 in the comics--were actually in their mid-20s. Star Wars is dead to me. It died for me when a saw The Last Jedi and did not even saw it to the end. But since that, I have not watched a Star wars movie. My blue-ray Star Wars box is just collecting dust. The last Hollywood movie I have watched was Midway that I love, in fact its one of my favorite movies. So I have made a choice not to watch new American movies and TV shows.

One mistake I see a lot of people making is assuming that Rings of Power is based on the Silmarillion. It's not. The Tolkien estate wouldn't sell them the rights. It's Sillmarillion adjacent, but not the Silmarillion itself.
